OMET wins the prestigious Label Award at Labelexpo Americas in Chicago

For the second time in three years, a jury of worldwide experts has acknowledged the Italian company.

The 'Label Award' for continuous innovation 2010' is promoted by Tarsus, the company that also organises the global series of Labelexpo shows, and also publishes Labels & Labeling, the most widely read important magazine in the label world.

OMET was chosen from a wide selection of participating companies after careful analysis of strict requirements: the innovation capacity of the company; its significant contribution to the sector of technological development; the company ethics; experience; and the attention to staff training. The decision was made by a jury composed of experts, guided by John Hockey (former President of the American Association TLMI) along with Andy Thomas (Editor of Labels and Labeling magazine), Tony White (Joint-Editor of NarroWebTech magazine), Jack Kenny (Editor Labels & Narrow Web magazine) and Andrea Vimercati (President of the European Association FINAT).

The prize was presented to OMET's Sales Director Marco Calcagni during a gala evening aboard the cruise ship 'Spirit of Chicago. He commented: "OMET is particularly proud of this new world acknowledgement. Once more, our ongoing commitment to research and development of technologically advanced solutions for converters and label printers worldwide has been recognised. It is an all-consuming passion at OMET that began with the foresight of our Founder and President, Angelo Bartesaghi, and continues through the fostering and development of the company's human resources."

This latest 'Label Award for the continuous innovation 2010' comes, as already stated, only two years after winning another prestigious award. In September 2008, the American FTA (Flexographic Technical Association) honoured OMET with its 'Technical Innovation Award 2008' in the sector of flexographic print for the then brand new X-Flex machine, which has gone on to become an industry reference point around the world for the narrow-web sector of label printing.

After almost 50 years in business, and with approximately 1,000 machines around the world, OMET has not only become one of the leading manufacturers in the field of printing presses, but also a real pioneer of continual innovation. It all started a long time ago, but the most significant milestone was passed in the last decade, with the launch of the VaryFlex narrow web series in 2001. It was the first flexographic press to utilise sleeve printing units and gearless technology, and saw the dawn of the age of servo drive machines.

In 2004 OMET opened the road to the combined printing platform, supplying a Chinese customer with 2 VaryFlex lines equipped with flexo, rotogravure, screen, hologram with foil saver and hologram paper, all in one line. This innovation secured the 'Gold Award' in the category for 'Narrow web - Paper (Colour)' at the AFTA Print Awards in Singapore in 2008.

In 2007 OMET launched the all new X-Flex range at Labelexpo. It had the shortest web path ever seen, and introduced many useful advantages for printers, like VISION-1 register and pre-register control that makes all the adjustments on the machine automatically at the touch of a button.

In 2008, OMET developed a solution for online solvent lamination on the VaryFlex range, and more recently has installed the largest narrow web machine it has ever manufacture in China. It is a 55 metre long VaryFlex, fitted with 20 combined printing units (UV-flexo, WB flexo, UV offset, and digital ink-jet) for the inline production of scratch lottery tickets.

OMET continues to innovate solutions aimed at optimising the converting phase of the production process. These are all aimed at reducing time and cost, and increase saving possibilities, such as the cut-on-the-fly die-cutting unit, the Twin-Cut unit and more recently the MonoTwin unit, which allows changing label format without replacing the cutting cylinder.
